(X)HTML

I’m currently working on a major redesign to this site. I’m converting the code from HTML to XHTML (Sounds really exciting, don’t it!?!?) and more heavily relying on CSS. Hopefully, this will make future redesigns a lot easier as the site’s design and content will be separated. And when everything’s up and running, all y’all nice people out there in cyberland will be able to enjoy fresh content - including photographs!!!

Thoughts from Tech

I went down to Tech last night - reunited with friends from the BSU and Theta Xi. I had the realization that I’m getting old - why - because college students are starting to look awfully young! Just thinkin’ that this year’s incoming freshmen were born in 1984 is enough to drive an ol’ man like me insane! Maybe that’s my secret motivation behind going to France: to feel un-aged and immortal far away from the 18-year olds on American college campuses. Well, at least it’s a thought…

Home, sweet home!

I’m safely back in Georgia now! The trip was rather uneventful excluding having my sgian dubh confiscated and circling Atlanta so Vice President Dick Cheney’s plane could land. It’ll probably start hitting me sometime tomorrow that I’ve actually left Scotland. At least for now, jet lag and a lack of sleep prevent me from feeling much of anything—although it is nice to be home.

Good bye, Scotland!

I gave my last Rotary presentation this afternoon to the Rotary Club of Johnstone. And this evening I made a final visit to the Rotary Club of Eastwood, the club that’s been hosting me this past year. They were so kind as to give me an autographed copy of Robert Burns poems. No, not signed by the Bard himself, but signed by the club’s members.

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

You've got mail!

Do you want a postcard from Scotland? I’ve been basically pathetic at sending people postcards since I’ve been here in Glasgow. Maybe it’s because I haven’t really considered myself a tourist - that was, at least, until this past week where I’ve been playing catch-up by visiting museums, castles, and other tourist hot-spots. So if you really do want a “Wish you were here!” message on the back of a pretty photo, send me your mailing address. (Note: I’m leaving the UK on July 17th, so if you (or I!!!) are not prompt you’ll get an American postmark.)

Hooray for the red, white, and blue!

Happy (American) Independence Day!

Only two weeks left...

Believe it or not—I hardly can—I am only here in the UK for another two weeks! I’ve already started saying good-byes to people, and it sure ain’t easy! When I was in Senegal a couple years back the people there always shake right hands since left hands are considered dirty. But when you’re saying a long goodbye, so long, maybe to never see each other again—you shake left hands. Simple as that—cuts out most of the awkward words and disturbing silence. I don’t think shaking left hands will suffice here—so forgive my sentimentality.
