The O.C.

Did anybody record The O.C. this past Wednesday (03/16/06 - Episode 317 - “The Journey”)? The song “In Dreams” was played by my friends Crash My Model Car. I can hardly believe I missed their American debut… So if anyone’s got a copy on their TiVo, I’ll be glad to provide you with some company on your couch. Thanks!

Cette musique m'a enchanté.

Every once in a while you happen upon one of those websites where you just have to wonder, “How in the world did somebody come up with this stuff?” Eureka, I’ve found one! Otis Fodder has decided to post a new mp3 each and every day of this year, aptly entitling the project 365 days.

“So, what’s the big deal?” you might ask. “Thousands if not millions of people put mp3s on the internet.” Well, I ask you, “How many songs have you heard about understanding Marxism? How about a Beatles song in French? Wouldn’t you like to listen to a song about your home’s heating unit?”

Happy listening!

Il est né le divin enfant.

Last Christmas Eve I made a special trip from Glasgow to Cambridge for the annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols service at King’s College Chapel. I took an overnight bus down, stood in line (literally in the freezing cold) for a few hours in order to gain admission, and took another overnight bus back. But every bit of the hassle was well worth it!

So tonight I was pleasantly surprised to happen upon another Lessons and Carols service, this one at the Eglise du Saint Esprit. The church I’ve been attending — St. Michael’s — conducted the service, but since I was at the soccer game last Sunday I had no idea!

Until the start of the service the extent of me singing Christmas songs in a foreign language basically consisted of belting out the chorus of “Feliz Navidad”. By the end of the service I had sung various verses of both traditional and modern songs in English (the British variety), French, and German. Sure, I had heard “Stille Nacht” before, but I’d always sung it in English. The same with “Il est né le divin enfant” - heard it but never sung it.

And it just so happened that the British Ambassador to France, Sir John Holmes KBE CMG CVO, was in attendance. Not too shabby.

Vous avez le courrier !

Yesterday, I received two copies of the CD I designed for Poor Old Ben in the mail! I, along with the band, am glad they turned out so well. I guess you’d probably have to understand a little of the transatlantic ordeal we had getting the artwork ready to be printed to truly appreciate how excited and surprised we’ve been at the final results. Way to go guys, the music sounds great! (FYI, you can purchase your very own copy of the CD of the band’s website.)

But in other mail-related news, my box of sweaters and architecture supplies that was shipped from Scotland a couple weeks ago still hasn’t arrived. The parcel company attempted a delivery last Thursday when I wasn’t home. I called yesterday to arrange a new delivery time, but they are unable to track my package! It’s disappeared!!! I’m a little worried considering the company’s other delivery problems!
