Longboard Blues

Greetings, everyone who’s suddenly coming my way via the Longboard at Airbag Industries. While hopefully shy of the Slashdot effect, I’m sure to get a relative surge in hits temporarily. I should hurry up and puts some ads on this site…

To think, all I did was send Greg a little note pointing out the odd WWII/September 11 poster I found via an post on his blog. Did anybody else catch that?

Thanks for my 15 minutes, Greg!

Viva la blog!

Here I am again after yet another lapse in weblog entry postings. To be honest, I no longer get the what-a-wonderful-update-to-my-website-this-will-make feelings during the course of a typical day. And I hate to think that leaving the glamorous life of a world-trotting student to get one of those “job” things has taken all the fun and adventure out of my daily existence. So…

For Those of You Keeping Count

This is entry #171, but maybe more impressively, it’s the second entry in as many days! I can’t expect you to be too impressed because, given the seemingly forever case of typer’s block I suffered through, you’re probably reading this weeks if not months or years after I punched some keys and magically brought this rambling thought to fruition. So now onto something much more fun-filled…

Furniture! Since I’ve got a new address I’ve had to do some shopping for domestic supplies. Number one on my list was a table/desk. I searched far and wide (read: all over metro Atlanta and at least a dozen internet sites) for the perfect piece. I’ve made rudimentary desks before using a door for a top and whatever-can-be-safely-stacked for legs, but now that I’m a working man I figured it was time to buy an actual desk. After much internal deliberation, I decided on a rather unique — and I’d say fun — piece of furniture. It’s the Fasil Furniture Task Desk/Sofa Table.

The company claims there’s a 10-minute assembly time. I chose to approach the assembly process like one of those wooden block puzzles you see in the Cracker Barrel shop. The “cheat sheet” (a.k.a. - manufacturer’s instructions) remained safely in the box as I started to insert the slot of this piece into the slot of that piece. And in certainly no more than 5 minutes (I wasn’t actually timing it.) I had constructed my desk!

And in recognition of all my friends who are taking finals this week, when you need a break from all that “studying” - you can go to your nearest Target (obviously, Target.com since you’re reading this online) and buy your very own piece of easily-assembled furniture. See how fast you can put yours together. I’ll race you!

Joyeux anniversaire

Yes, it’s sad but true. On this day six years ago I FTPed my first piece of HTML onto the WWW. Thus began the process of creating what appears on your computer screen in front of you today! We had finally gotten internet access at home for Christmas 1996, and by New Year’s everything was up and running. Within a couple weeks I had downloaded enough software, viewed enough source code, and gathered up enough narcissistic pride to join the growing multitudes by making a personal website.

Il y a une erreur!

There is a problem with this weblog now. I am trying to fix it!

Le tonnerre, la foudre, le verglas...

I’ve never heard thunder, seen lightning, or seen sleet in Paris before… until now! I think it might be nice to stay inside and read for the rest of the day.

FYI, this is post #100 on this weblog. Now you don’t have to waste your time counting.

Bienvenue à Movable Type

I’ve just finished migrating this online journal from Blogger to Movable Type.

Voilà !

So I’ve finally gotten this site looking halfway how I like it. I’ve employed the KISS method so things will be easier to update and maintain - allowing me to out and about in Paris more while still keeping y’all posted on what I’m up to. And speaking of updated websites, check out the new Georgia Tech one! It too has been a long time coming, but looks well worth the wait.

And now starts my first full week here in Paris! The agenda includes setting up my bank account, trudging through our intensive French language classes, and visiting key architectural sites such as the Pompidou Centre, Villa La Roche, and Villa Savoye.

Be sure to check out the photos, featuring shots from our welcome party and a view of my apartment.

(X)HTML

I’m currently working on a major redesign to this site. I’m converting the code from HTML to XHTML (Sounds really exciting, don’t it!?!?) and more heavily relying on CSS. Hopefully, this will make future redesigns a lot easier as the site’s design and content will be separated. And when everything’s up and running, all y’all nice people out there in cyberland will be able to enjoy fresh content - including photographs!!!

It's updated.

Well, good news—my site’s actually able to updated once again! I’ll try to bring y’all up to speed in the next couple days. The spring term’s begun so I’m already quite busy. I also have a Rotary talk every week this month. I really don’t have time to be typing this now, so I’ll say good-bye. “Good bye!”

There’s something wrong with my website, but by the time you actually read this message the problem will obviously be fixed.

Under Construction

And stay posted for a completely updated website! I’m working on it… I promise!

November 20, 2001

Good morning!

I believe I finally have most things updated here on the site… which now also includes photos!

dot com

Welcome to Kyle’s brand-spanking new “dotcom” world! It’s experimental, vanguard, and 100% fat free! It’s taken me almost 5 months to get this site up and working. (As you can see from the “This is a test!” message posted earlier.) So go get a Coke from the fridge then come back and peruse my little corner of the world wide web… Cheers!

In one week (give or take a few hours) I’ll be on a plane to Barcelona!
